HC ⚠ Safety Risk

Samsung Dryer HC — High Heat Error

The dryer shuts down mid-cycle and there is a hot, scorched smell at the door.

What does Samsung HC mean?

The dryer's thermistor or high-limit thermostat detected a temperature above the safe operating threshold. The dryer shuts off to prevent damage and fire risk.

What causes Samsung HC?

  • Blocked exhaust duct (most common — see d80/d90 for duct cleaning steps)
  • Failed thermistor giving a false high-temp reading
  • Heating element shorted to ground (electric models)
  • Gas valve failing to close properly (gas models — fire risk)

How to fix Samsung HC yourself

  1. 1 Check and clean the lint filter and exhaust duct (see d80 steps above).
  2. 2 After cleaning, let the dryer cool for 30 minutes before restarting.
  3. 3 If HC returns immediately on a clean duct, do not continue using the dryer.
