Dryer ⚠ Safety Risk

LG d80 — Exhaust Duct 80% Blocked

What This Code Means

The flow-sense system detected that the exhaust duct is approximately 80% restricted. Airflow is severely reduced, causing the dryer to overheat and take much longer to dry clothes.

Common Causes

  • Lint accumulation in the duct run
  • Crushed or kinked flexible duct behind or under the dryer
  • Bird or pest nest in the exterior vent hood
  • Exterior vent flap stuck closed

DIY Steps to Try First

  1. Clean the lint filter before every load — d80 often appears after extended neglect.
  2. Pull the dryer away from the wall and inspect the flexible duct section: no sharp bends, not crushed.
  3. Go outside and confirm the vent hood flap opens freely when the dryer runs.
  4. For a full duct cleaning, use a dryer vent brush kit (sold at hardware stores) to clean the full duct run.
