What does Samsung 40E mean?

The ice maker has detected a fault — typically the ice tray motor has stalled, or the ice maker sensor circuit is open. Displayed on models with an ice maker in the door.

What causes Samsung 40E?

  • Ice clump jamming the tray motor
  • Failed ice maker assembly (motor or sensor)
  • Water supply line kinked or frozen
  • Inlet valve not delivering water to the ice maker

How to fix Samsung 40E yourself

  1. 1 Lift the ice maker arm to the OFF position, wait 10 minutes, then lower it to ON.
  2. 2 Check the ice bin — remove any large clumps that could jam the auger.
  3. 3 Verify the water supply valve behind or under the fridge is fully open.
  4. 4 Run a test cycle if your model supports it (consult the owner's manual).
