GE E3 — Spin Speed Error

What This Code Means

The washer's tachometer (speed sensor on the motor) reported that the drum did not reach or maintain the programmed spin speed. The control board shuts down the spin cycle as a safety measure.

Common Causes

• Severely unbalanced load causing the control to abort spin
• Worn carbon motor brushes (on older models with brush motors)
• Failed motor control board
• Door latch not fully engaging (safety interlock prevents spin)

DIY Steps to Try First

1. Open and redistribute the laundry, then restart the cycle.
2. Check that the door clicks firmly closed before starting.
3. Try running a different wash program — if spin works on a different setting, the issue may be with that specific program's speed target.
