GE F3 — GE Oven F3 — Open Temperature Sensor Circuit

What This Code Means

The temperature sensor (RTD probe) circuit is open — the control board cannot read the oven temperature. Without temperature feedback, the oven will refuse to bake or broil.

Common Causes

  • Broken or burned temperature sensor probe wire
  • Sensor connector loose at the control board
  • Failed temperature sensor (open resistance — measure with multimeter: should be ~1100 ohms at room temp)

DIY Steps to Try First

  1. Power off at the breaker.
  2. Access the sensor probe (inside the oven back wall, typically two screws). Inspect the wiring for visible burn damage.
  3. With a multimeter in resistance mode, test the sensor across its two terminals — a reading of approximately 1050-1100 ohms at room temperature indicates a good sensor. Infinite resistance (OL) means the sensor is open/failed.
  4. If the sensor tests bad, the part is typically $20-$50 and replacement is DIY-feasible.
